Calculate Instagram engagement rate with your numbers.
This free Instagram engagement calculator uses only the figures you enter. Start with likes and comments. Add saves or shares if you have them, then choose followers, reach or views for your comparison.
Engagement rate = (included interactions ÷ comparison total) × 100
For a follower-based average, first divide the combined interactions by the number of posts. The calculator uses one follower count for that whole set.
How to compare average vs. median Instagram engagement.
An engagement rate describes the figures you include. Keep the calculation consistent before comparing posts, accounts or a result from another tool.
Use the same comparison
A follower-based rate and a reach-based rate answer different questions. Compare like with like, and keep the comparison named beside each result.
Match the figures to the posts
Use interaction counts and reach or views from the same post. When using several posts in follower mode, enter their combined interactions and the correct post count.
Keep the included metrics clear
A rate using likes and comments differs from one that also includes saves or shares. Leave unavailable metrics out rather than enter an invented zero.
Instagram engagement rate formula: followers, reach, or views.
Choose the comparison that answers your question. The calculator names it beside the result so you can keep track.
By followers
Compare interactions with the account's follower count. This is useful for a public comparison when the same metrics are available for each account. It does not mean that all those followers saw the post.
By reach
Compare a post's interactions with its reported accounts reached. Use a reach figure you have access to for the same post, rather than substituting follower count or an estimate.
By video views
Compare a video's interactions with the view or play count reported for that video. Keep the metric definition consistent; views or plays can include repeated viewing and are not the same as unique accounts reached.

Instagram engagement rate calculator FAQs.
How do I calculate Instagram engagement rate?
Add the interaction counts you want to include, divide by the chosen comparison total and multiply by 100. For a follower-based calculation using public figures, start with likes plus comments divided by follower count. Keep the included metrics and denominator clear when sharing the result.
Can I measure Instagram engagement online without signing in?
Yes. The manual calculator on this page uses the figures you enter without sign-in. To use AnalyzeInsta as an Instagram engagement checker for recent engagement analytics and top posts on a public handle, continue with Google for 3 Free Search Tokens.
Should I use followers, reach or video views?
Use followers when comparing interactions with account size, reach when comparing with accounts reached by the same post, or video views when comparing with the view or play count of the same video. These are different denominators, so their percentages should not be compared as though they use the same method.
Should I include saves and shares?
Include them if you have the figures and want them in the calculation. Keep the included metrics consistent across results. If a figure is unavailable, leave that option off. The calculator does not fetch private saves, shares or reach from another person's account.
How does the calculator average several posts?
In follower mode, enter combined interaction totals, the number of posts and one follower count. The tool divides the interactions by the post count before calculating the rate. This is an arithmetic mean using a common follower count, not the median of individual post rates. Reach and video-view modes use one post at a time.
What is a good Instagram engagement rate?
There is no single percentage that suits every account, format or goal. Start by comparing similar posts with the same method and included metrics. Consider whether the response supports your goal, such as useful conversations or enquiries, rather than treating a percentage as a complete quality score.
Can an engagement rate exceed 100%?
Yes. The numerator counts actions, not unique people, and people outside the follower base can also interact. Check that you used the right denominator and matching post figures before interpreting a high result. The percentage is not a count of unique followers who engaged.
Why does another engagement calculator give a different result?
Tools can use different post sets, interaction types, denominators or averaging methods. Check whether both results use likes and comments only, whether saves or shares were included, which posts were measured and whether the result is a mean or a median. Match those choices before comparing the percentages.
